Construction work is under way to build a new adventure barn at Puxton Park, which will host shows and events, in addition to an increased range of farm animals.

The new 30,000 square-foot development will host a pets village, which is relocating from another building in the park, offering visitors the opportunity to experience a larger and more varied range of animals on show.

The adventure barn is due to open to the public at the end of the summer.

Park boss Alistair Mead said: “We hope the barn will be open from August 1, but we don’t want to rush it, we want to get it right.”

Puxton Park claims it will be ‘one of the largest indoor adventure barns in the country.’

The park plans to house 10-15 pens for animals in the new barn.

An auditorium with a capacity of 250 is also included in the development.

The park plans to maximise its all-weather offerings, with shows planned for winter and the Christmas period.

The new barn will incorporate a number of environmentally friendly features, including solar panels and a system that recycles rain water on the roof for the animals to drink.

A statement from a park spokesman said: “Benefitting from a large arena means we will see animal shows throughout the year, all undercover and never affected by the ever unpredictable British weather, making Puxton Park a truly all-year-round, all-weather attraction.”

The park is appealing for Mercury readers to send in their suggestions for features to go in the barn. These can be sent via email to marketing@puxton.co.uk
