MORE than 3,000 bits of rubbish were cleaned up from Weston’s beach by a team of volunteers.

The 30 volunteers, from recycling company SITA UK’s administrative offices in Weston, armed themselves with gloves and bags to collect the waste from the town’s beach on August 1.

Having picked up items such as plastic bottles, tin cans and nappies over a six hour period, customers services manager Chris Eldergill said: “It is always a good feeling to put something extra back into your local community and our team went about their work on the beach with gusto, much to the delight of holidaymakers and local residents.”
