THE owner of a café and eatery in the heart of Winscombe has big plans for his new business venture.

Village resident Quinn McCarthy has opened The Pantry Café and Bistro in Woodborough Road, and will be using cakes supplied by his wife Mandy’s business.

The new venture has launched on the site of the former Cottage Tea Shop and will feature hot meals, teas, coffees and, of course, a wide range of cakes.

Mr McCarthy, a 37-year-old former relationship manager at a recruitment company, launched the bistro after he was made redundant.

It will be stocked with cakes made by his 32-year-old wife through her business, Raising The Cakes, which is based at their home in Plumtree Close.

He said: “We’re looking at doing lots of new things, like doing afternoon teas and having private bookings from groups such as football clubs. We’ll be looking to do a lot in the new year.

“I will also look to get a licence to serve alcohol eventually. At the moment I’m just finding out what people want, and I’m also making sure we use local products.

“It is a change from my last job, but ultimately it’s dealing with people and building relationships with them.”
