A NATIONAL event promoting independent businesses was celebrated in Weston.

Small Business Saturday was recognised by Weston MP John Penrose, Mayor Keith Morris and town centre manager Steve Townsend as they visited a number of local businesses.

Mr Penrose and the mayor also travelled to Worle, to support the Federation Of Small Businesses’ (FSB) keep trade local campaign.

John Mayer, chairman of Weston’s FSB, said: “If local shoppers are not prepared to support local retail, the shops will disappear from high streets.

“Once a high street has fallen into decline, it is very difficult to resurrect.”
