A father and daughter duo walked away smiling this week after winning the £500 prize from the Mercury’s Five Gold rings competition, and you could be the final winner when the last two rings are given away tonight (Thursday).

The Mercury has teamed up with Weston Business Improvement District (BID) and Meadow Street-based jeweller Caboodle to give away five rings worth up to £500 before Christmas.

Another busy week of late-night shopping meant the ballot box was brimming with entries, but this week’s lucky winners were Gary Shepherd, aged 49, and his 23-year-old daughter Freya – who had entered the competition in previous weeks but this time walked away with the Caboodle voucher.

Gary, of Argyle Avenue, Weston, said: “It’s so exciting and brilliant, I can’t believe it. It’s the perfect early Christmas present; I can’t wait to tell my wife.

“I’m certainly going to treat her. She loves a bit of bling.”

Town centre manager Steve Townsend said it was ‘another great week’ for the competition.

He added: “I understand Mr Shepherd was here last week and entered. He obviously didn’t win that time, but he made the effort to come back into the town centre and I’m really pleased he’s won this week, so it’s another great result.

“It could be anyone who wins, and don’t forget we have two prizes lined up for the final week too, so there’s twice the chance for their last late-night shop.”

Caboodle owner Steve Finch said: “We’ve had another fantastic response which is wonderful and it’s all building towards December 22 where there’s double the chance for everyone.

“Hopefully it will encourage more people to shop locally and perhaps buy or win something beautiful just before Christmas.”

The competition has made three people’s Christmas so far, and it is not too late to win the perfect present, with two more prizes up for grabs in tonight’s double giveaway.

All you have to do is fill in the competition slip and hand it in to the Mercury stand at tonight’s final late-night shopping event in the High Street.

If your name is drawn, we will give you a call. You must answer within five rings and you must return to the stand within 10 minutes to claim the prize.

So if you are in town tonight looking for some last-minute stocking fillers, be sure to enter the Five Gold Rings draw – it could make it the perfect Christmas.
