MORE than 50,000 passengers descended on Bristol Airport over the weekend as it enjoyed one of its busiest periods of the year.
Many families took the opportunity to leave the cold and wet weather behind as they jetted off to sunnier climes or visited relatives abroad for Christmas.
An estimated 56,000 people passed through the terminal, with 11 flights operating today (Tues).
Aviation director Shaun Browne said: “December is always a busy month, with people taking advantage of the holidays to have a well-earned break or the opportunity to get together with friends and family.
“Winter sun destinations are also proving popular as passengers across the South West and Wales wish to get away from the winter weather.”
