YOU may not associate picking up litter with fun and games but a beach clean in Weston-super-Mare paired the two together perfectly.

More than 90 volunteers took to Weston beach to pick up any stray litter before enjoying games of giant jenga, connect four, twister and snakes and ladders on the sand.

The Big Beach Clean Up, organised by Marks and Spencer, took place on Tuesday morning and litter pickers collected more than 24 bags of rubbish weighing in at 40.25kg.

The store manager at Marks and Spencer in Weston’s High Street, Kim Baker, said: “The Big Beach Clean Up is all about bringing the local community together to help protect marine life and the environment and it was fantastic to see people working together, having fun and supporting such a great cause.”

The Grand Pier also gave all of the volunteers a wristband each which will treat them to a free day at the attraction to use any time in June.
