A DAB of foundation and a smudge of blusher can quickly change your look and put a spring in your step but Jules Derrick wanted to take a step further with her new cosmetics company.

After 20 years in accounting Jules decided to embrace her creative side and try a new profession away from paperwork and big numbers, and launched her company Outside The Box.

Now she has picked up a blusher brush and decided to not only make a bride’s day special with some professional touches but to help those who want to cover up more than a few dark circles.

Jules, of The Orchard in Locking, decided she wanted to help those who want to conceal skin conditions with her skin camouflage make-up range, and set up a stunt to show the full effects of her work and raise cash for skin cancer research.

Her colourful friend Spider, pictured, was her model for the evening and Jules spent an afternoon dabbing on the make-up and then took him into the Coach House Inn to reveal what was actually underneath.

Shock and surprise followed for the regulars in the pub when Jules slowly revealed Spider’s tattoos under the cream and powder.

Jules, who has been trained with the British Association of Skin Camouflage, said: “There are lots of different aspects of make up and I think skin camouflage is a great one.

“One of my clients deals with a skin condition and when I showed her what I could do she had tears in her eyes. She’s got so much confidence now.

“I want to help people with conditions such as psoriasis and impetigo and it is a really rewarding part of make-up.”

The 54-year-old, who has also set up a charitable trust in memory of her son Charlie, offers fantasy make-up, where she could turn an office secretary into a celtic princess or a warrior.
