A £10MILLION drive to improve older people’s homes in Weston has been completed.

Knightstone Housing has finished the multi-million-pound programme, which lasted for four years, involving significant improvements to its sheltered and extra care housing.

The programme included the refurbishment of 11 schemes in Weston, such as Knightstone Place in Worle, Bath and Bristol, with many communal areas and individuals’ kitchens and bathrooms being replaced or renewed.

The company also installed automatic front door entry systems to help residents with mobility problems to access their homes more easily.

A focus on providing better lighting, level-access showers, more accessible garden areas and new facilities like buggy stores was also made.

Darrell Jackson, strategic business manager for older people at Knightstone, said: “We listened to our residents so we knew what we needed to do to meet their needs and expectations.

“We’ve modernised and refreshed their homes, to provide a more homely environment with a friendly atmosphere.

“It’s important that our residents have homes and facilities that help them to maintain their independence for as long as possible, so they can continue to enjoy life.”
