IF YOU fancy chowing down on noodles from those takeaway boxes you see in the movies, you now can thanks to a new contemporary food outlet in Weston.

Tokyo Wok, in Orchard Place, is serving up freshly-cooked, Asian-inspired noodle dishes and owner, Daryl Hobbs, said business has been booming.

The restaurant and takeaway, which opened last week, allows customers to select what type of noodle they want, from the egg, rice or udon varieties.

They then select what meats or vegetables they want to add, such as prawns, chicken, beef, cashew nuts, pak choi and baby corn, and finally they choose a sauce, such as oyster, peanut satay or teriyaki.

The experienced chef then gets to work with his wok and customers can even see him create their customised dish behind a clear screen.

Daryl, aged 29, from Weston, said: “I was inspired by this type of cuisine when I went to the Netherlands.

“It’s a success there so I thought why not bring this type of business to Weston.

“It’s good for the area and hopefully this business will encourage and help other businesses open up around here.

“I have taken the American-style takeaway boxes and mixed this with Asian foods, which people seem to love.”

This is the former Worle community School student’s first business venture and he said he has already received many compliments on the venue’s modern layout and tasty food.

The eatery has long communal wooden tables and benches, vibrant neon colours and a large graphic of the bustling city of Tokyo along one wall.

Customers can also go for the rice option, choose from an array of side dishes including spring rolls and prawn toasts, and are also presented with chopsticks to add to the authenticity.

Daryl, who designed the layout, and has a background in signs and graphics, said: “A lot of people are surprised when they see how nice it is inside as they would expect somewhere like this to be in Bristol or London. It’s top quality, authentic food and it’s cheap so people should pop in and check us out.”

The average cost of a customised box of noodles is 4-5.
