A shopping area at the heart of one of North Somerset's largest villages is set to be transformed, after North Somerset Council approved the area's refurbishment last week.

The Pages Court shopping centre, in Yatton’s High Street, has been in need of a makeover for some time, according to many villagers.

However, the precinct – as it is known to people in the village – will soon be given a new look by building consultancy firm 3Sixty Real Estate.

Its plans include replacing shop windows with uPVC fascias and installing new roofing and additional seating.

The precinct will also be kitted out with bike stands and trees will be planted throughout the area to make it more attractive to shoppers.

A statement from 3Sixty said: “The existing site area of Pages Court is uninspiring and comprises largely of concrete paving and a small grassed area. Historically, we understand a tree used to provide the main central feature, but this has since died and has not been replaced.

“The external areas of Pages Court are in drastic need of upgrading and refurbishment. The external refurbishment of the building and upgrading of the landscaping will greatly improve its visual appearance and make it a more attractive and appealing place to visit.”

The refurbishment has also been supported by Yatton Parish Council.

In a statement which was sent to North Somerset, the parish council said: “The proposed refurbishment is a very welcome improvement to the heart of the village and overall street scene of the area.

“The choice of materials for the surfacing is both practical for all users and also aesthetically pleasing.

“The overall design will create a much more attractive and usable space for the community, which will hopefully encourage organisations to use for the benefit of village residents.”
