Plans to convert a former pub into houses has been backed by parish councillors.

Yatton’s Prince of Orange pub shut last year and a new scheme to turn it into housing was revealed by the Mercury last month.

iTech Homes is seeking planning permission for six homes in the pub’s garden and car park, and wants to transform the main building into three properties.

Yatton Parish Council voted to support the plan.

However, it raised some concerns over road safety as the pub’s car park had been used by villagers living nearby, who have since parked in High Street following the inn’s closure.

Parish council clerk Aleana Baird said: “The parish council wishes to recommend a crossing with zigzag lines to assist pedestrians, especially with pushchairs and disabled buggies, to be able to cross over as the pavement ends at the Butchers Arms.

“The accompanying zigzag lines would also preclude parking on the High Street opposite the site making it easier and safer for its residents to emerge onto the High Street.”
