POST Office customers have been offered a guarantee that changes to a Weston branch will not lead to problems with increased waiting times.

The Post Office in Aller Parade on the Oldmixon estate is set to close, with new counters being installed at McColls newsagent in the same road in February.

But the firm is moving to reassure customers who raised issues during its public consultation. The counters will have longer opening hours than the old store – an increase of 58 hours per week.

A Post Office statement said: “During public consultation we received a very small number of comments expressing slight reservation about the availability of space. We can reassure customers that there is sufficient space and the branch will be in line with Post Office specification.”

It also said customers will be able to access its services from the store’s main counter outside Post Office times, helping to reduce waiting times. The store will close on February 5, with the new counters operating at McColls the following day.
