A BUSINESS aimed at helping students of all ages with revision by using mind-mapping has scooped an award from Job Centre Plus.

Puzzlebox Potential, based in Banwell, specialises in using visual techniques, as well as mind-mapping, to help improve people’s learning abilities.

Mind mapping is a way of using diagrams to represent ideas or tasks, usually arranged around a central key word or idea to help visualise and structure learning.

The business was set up two years ago by Nick Hodder, aged 33 from Worle and Simon Pearson, aged 41 from Banwell.

Mr Pearson, who has a form of cerebral palsy, understood the need for alternative ways of learning as he was one of the first children with special needs to go into a mainstream school.

Although Mr Hodder has since left the company, Puzzlebox Potential is still being run by Mr Pearson and has received the positive about disabled people symbol, by the UK Government agency.

Mr Pearson said: “Puzzlebox was inspired by my own personal challenges in everyday life, education, and employment.

“To achieve this award as a sign of our commitment to equality and truly recognises our values.”

The symbol is awarded to organisations in England, Scotland and Wales who have made commitments to employ, keep and develop the abilities of disabled staff.
