AN AWARD-WINNING Winscombe business has praised the work of budding young writers who took part in a competition.

The Country House Gift Company, in Woodborough Road, held a children’s handwriting and poetry competition to celebrate National Stationery Week.

Children were asked to write a short poem about the theme of ‘summer fun’. Each entry was then judged on the quality of its handwriting, as well as the content of the poem itself.

The three winners each received a Country House Gift Company card and stationery hamper, which included pieces such as themed pens and pencils and a finger printing set.

The shop’s owner, Elaine Coles, said: “We were inundated with entries to the competition.

“Well done to everyone who took part – I loved reading every single one of the poems.”

The business also encouraged older customers to send in cards with a handwritten message to loved ones during National Stationery Week. The shop said at the time it wanted to ‘support the National Stationery Week project and get Britain writing’.
