A FATHER-and-daughter duo who started a street food business from their family kitchen have celebrated their first anniversary with an expansion.

Trained chef Fred Balakrishna and step-daughter Anna Smith ran The Mango Hub from their family kitchen in Congresbury.

They have now moved into bigger premises to create their vegetarian Keralan cuisine.

Anna, aged 24, said: “There has been a surge in the popularity of street food in the UK and the beauty of our food is that it isn’t the stereotypical cuisine you get in the tourist traps of Mumbai or Goa.

“It is based on the authentic recipes from the south Indian region of Kerala, with many of our spices sourced from the local mills of Kozikhode, formerly Calicut, where Fred and his mum’s family come from.

“A huge fan of south Indian food myself, I bring my own touch to the mix.”

The duo are helped by Anna’s mum Rebecca and grandmother Jo, who makes chutneys.
