A FAMILY run store has had a sweet surprise – the confectioners has been named in the UK’s top 100 small businesses.
Bessie’s Sweet Shoppe in Burnham has been included in the list set up by Shadow Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills Chuka Umunna for Small Business Saturday, a day of awareness to be held on December 7.
The store is run by Les and Sue Barber, a husband and wife team who source stock locally.
Chuka Umunna said: “There has been enthusiastic support from local authorities, which are critical in bringing local community activities to life on Small Business Saturday itself.
“This is the day not only to celebrate the contribution local, small, independent businesses make to our economy and encourage people to buy from them but to highlight what they add to our communities so that we continue to support them all year round.”
