The Borough Arms, in Locking Road, is closed until mid November while staff transform the venue into a community pub with a focus on family dining.

The venue is owned by Star Pubs & Bars and run by new licensee Simon Blaker who is hoping to make it more welcoming for families and games teams.

He said: “I moved to Weston in 2008 as I had family down here and thought it was a nicer environment in which to raise my daughter.

“I have been driving past The Borough Arms on the school run for past nine years and could see its potential.

“So, when the lease came up with the prospect of a refurbishment, I leapt at the chance to create a great family-friendly local, the sort of place people tell me they want in Weston village.

“We’ll be looking for people to join The Borough Arms darts and skittles teams in time to join leagues in the new year, so please get in touch.

“I live on the other side of the estate, so am very much looking forward to meeting more residents and the existing regulars of the pub.”

The interior and exterior of the pub will be redecorated and the layout improved with a more prominent dining area and comfortable snug areas.

New carpets, lighting, TVS and furniture will be added and the toilets will be upgraded to include a new baby changing facility.

Food will play a major part at The Borough Arms with afternoon coffee, cakes and snacks and a special chidlren’s and early evening menu featuring healthy dishes.

Neil Convery, from Star Pubs & Bars, said: “The housing estate behind the pub has expanded significantly over the past 10 years and needs a great family friendly independently run local within easy walking distance.

“The pub is also in striking distance of all Weston schools, so is ideally positioned for post school tea, coffees and food.

“Simon has the experience needed and the passion to create a great community pub.

“We’re pleased to be investing in The Borough Arms to improve its appearance, comfort and facilities and to help Simon realise his dream and provide the community with a premium local on their doorstep.”
