MORE than one in three small businesses in the South West are already experiencing the effects of recession, with a quarter seeing a decline in new business.
In all, 35% of the small businesses surveyed have noticed that customers are cutting back on the frequency and size of orders.
In addition, 25% across the region have experienced a lack of new business and 12% are facing cash flow problems due to delayed payments.
The survey of 170 small businesses across the South West, was carried out in January 2009, the same month that the UK economy technically entered recession.
