THE number of visitors going to a North Somerset tourist attraction has soared this year, smashing the records for the past seven years.

Like a number of companies and attractions in and around Weston, Puxton Park – located on the outskirts of town – is enjoying a successful summer.

The farm attraction is reporting midsummer figures which show it has had its busiest year to date, with a huge 30 per cent increase in visitors.

This statistic means 2014 is the park’s most successful season since it opened in 2007.

Bosses say the positive results reflct their continued investment in new attractions and activities, which this year has included £1million spent on a new cheese dairy which set to open later this month, a new bumper boats section and sunken trampolines.

Work is also under way on a new secret garden with herbaceous borders, climbing roses, topiary and walnut trees.

This follows last year’s miniature railway addition.

Managing director Alistair Mead said: “We have been overwhelmed with the support the park has received, which is helping us to maintain our position as one of the most popular adventure parks in the South West.

“With our continued expansion, Puxton can only go from strength to strength and help attract more visitors to the region.”

Impressive figures have been reported across Weston in recent weeks, with a number of key events – including the South West Live, McBusted and Corona Sunsets music events – drawing huge crowds, and Weston Air Festival bringing a reported 175,000 people to the town in one weekend.
