A triathlon and half marathon will no longer go ahead in Weston-super-Mare, after the events company which ran them went out of business.

Freak Events, based in Langford, helped to organise the Grand Pier half-marathon which took place in November, as well as a triathlon in 2015.

A spokesman from the company said: “It is with great regret that due to increasing costs and an ever-increasing competitive market, Freak Events has taken the decision to no longer continue with the business.

“Freak Events will not be running its 2017 programme. Any entry fees paid for 2017 events will be refunded and invoices already submitted will be paid in due course.

“The team have made this decision with a heavy heart and thank all the volunteers and competitors for many wonderful memories over the years.”

A spokesman for Weston Athletic Club said: “We’re sorry to hear that Freak Events won’t be organising any more races. Their events have proved very popular with our members in recent years, particularly Weston’s half marathon. We wish the team every success with their future challenges.”
