TWO stores will have disappeared from Weston’s high street by the end of the month.
Jessops, which was situated next to WHSmith, closed down last Thursday because it was no longer making a profit.
And Head, the CD and DVD store, is set to close on January 28 after moving into the Sovereign Shopping Centre a year ago.
The pair are set to add to a growing list of retailers who have pulled put of the town centre in recent months.
Big-name companies such as Millets, Game and Clarks, among others, have all recently vacated units.
A Jessops spokesman said it was no longer viable to keep a store in Weston and instead the company will focus on its branches at Cribbs Causeway and in Bristol.
She said: “As part of an improvement programme the profitability of existing stores is being assessed to establish their ongoing commercial viability.
“The lease for the Weston store has expired and it is unfortunate the store no longer meets the profitability criteria.
“Regrettably, the decision has been taken to close the store with immediate effect.
“We are working closely with affected employees and will be looking to redeploy them in other parts of the business where possible.”
