Two women celebrated their 101st birthdays side by side at a Weston-super-Mare nursing home.

Constance Simpson, who is better known as Betty, turned the grand age of 101 on March 24 and Vera Jordan celebrated her 101st birthday on March 28.

The duo both live at Albert House Nursing Home in Weston and staff hosted a birthday party for the two women on Friday, when Weston singer Denis Demille visited to sing Happy Birthday.

Betty was born in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, but moved to London as an adult to work in the Court of Protection.

She relocated to Bristol before moving to Weston 35 years ago, where she worked in an office above Lloyds Bank in High Street, helping to run the town’s courts until she retired.

Vera was born in Redhill, Surrey, and in her younger days worked in Co-op. But when she got married she became a housewife and keen gardener, and has always been very active in helping the Royal British Legion.
