SHOPPERS at a new Weston supermarket selected a hospital appeal as its nominated charity this month.

Waitrose, in Phillips Road, had three charities competing for a donation through its Community Matters Scheme.

Customers voted by putting a token in a collecting box every time they shopped and Weston General Hospital's Diamond Appeal for a new digital breast scanner won.

Representatives from the project committee picked up a cheque for 675 from the supermarket last Saturday.

The remainder of the 1,000 the company gives to charities each month was split between two other worthy causes.
