A WESTON building contractor is this week celebrating 50 years in business.

John West Contractors, based at Vernon Court, was set up by John West in 1960, and services key construction trades including bricklaying, carpentry, plumbing, decorating and more.

Director Tony Bass, who bought the firm in 1984, said the firm – which boasts a 65-strong workforce – is also moving with the times by launching a new arm specialising in renewable energies.

Mr Bass, who now runs the firm with sons Mark and Jon, said: “It is great to be able to look forward to exciting new developments in our business at the same time as we look back over all the many achievements in the last 50 years.”
