Weston Jobs Fair returns later this month, with a wide range of employers hunting for hundreds of talented people to fill vacant positions.
Weston College’s recently-revamped Winter Gardens, in Royal Parade, will host the ‘biggest jobs fair yet’ on September 27 from 10.30am-2pm – with almost 50 employers already signed up.
Big-name firms, public sector employers and North Somerset-based companies will be showcasing their vacancies at the free-to-attend event – which is sponsored by Brandon Trust, McDonald’s, CTS, Elysium, and the Mercury.
Cineworld is also sponsoring the event, and will be looking for people to take up roles at its
Dolphin Square cinema which is due to open before Christmas.
Other employers also signed up include Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Bakers Dolphin, Utility Warehouse, the Army and Alliance Homes.
The event is organised by Weston MP John Penrose, who believes the jobs fair can contribute
to town centre regeneration, which has already seen unemployment fall to fewer than 900, according to latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions.
The jobs fair has grown in recent years, becoming a biannual event with exhibitions in the spring and autumn which have attracted thousands of people looking for work or a career change.
March’s event broke the attendance record for both jobseekers and employers, and Mr Penrose is hoping the event can continue to improve.
Mr Penrose told the Mercury: “The jobs fair is a way for my team to play a part in Weston’s economic rebirth.
“After every event we have local people saying they’ve found a job they are excited about and that’s a great feeling for all of us.
“This year’s jobs fair will be the biggest yet and we’ve worked hard to make sure there is more variety of jobs available than ever before too.”
Experts from Skills4Work, Learn By Design and Jobcentre Plus will be on hand to offer career advice and information on apprenticeships and further education to hopefuls at the jobs fair.
