AIRBUS UK has named a Weston man as its Apprentice of the Year.

James Eden, a former pupil at Broadoak Secondary School and Weston College, joined Airbus in Filton in 2005.

The 26-year-old won the title for demonstrating commitment, determination and self-motivation in both his academic and technical studies.

Perry McCarthy, better known as the original Stig from BBC One's Top Gear, presented James with his trophy.

He has just completed his three year higher engineering apprenticeship and is now an engineer in Airbus' state-of-the-art composite structures development centre where he works on the latest composite carbon fibre materials for current and future aircraft wings.

James is now studying for a master's degree in mechanical engineering.
