The Weston-super-Mare branch of PC World will be closing its doors when it merges with the Currys store next door.
Dixons Carphone, the company which owns both shops as well as Carphone Warehouse, revealed its plans to close 134 stores across the country earlier this year.
It announced in January its plans to combine all PC World and Currys branches and put a Carphone Warehouse branch into each one.
The company has applied to North Somerset Council for planning permission to extend the mezzanine by 274sqm in Currys in Marchfields Way to make room for the merger.
Once empty, the former PC World building will be sold.
In its planning statement, the company said: “The application proposals are part of a wider national programme of store improvements to PC World and Currys stores throughout the country.
“The purpose of the proposal is to create a three-in-one format store, combining the brands of Currys, PC World and Carphone Warehouse, where appropriate.”
But the company says it is not looking to cut any jobs – and predicts the new tenant of the vacated PC World unit could bring about 13 new jobs.
It said: “The proposal will enable the unit to continue in operation, make efficient use of an existing building and meet commercial requirements.
“The existing jobs at PC World will be transferred to the enlarged Currys, thereby enabling another occupier to locate in the vacated unit, bringing new jobs and investment.”
