A WESTON student who is learning about the craft of furniture making has had one of his pieces selected for the annual Somerset Guild furniture exhibition.

The life of trees exhibition is the result of a partnership between the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen and Bridgwater College. As well as featuring his work at the exhibition at the Courthouse Gallery in Somerton, Jamie Hockey, aged 21, has recently secured a position with GRH furniture makers.

He said: “I am now hoping my media display unit will be chosen as one of the three pieces of furniture the visitors would most like to have in their homes.”

The finalists work will be displayed during Somerset Art Week between September 15-30, where the winner will be announced. The winner will be awarded 300, which has been jointly funded by the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen and Somerset Art Works.
