The Mercury’s search to find a brilliant new business is underway, and an entrepreneur believes the prize could take your company to another level.

Weston Super Startup hopes to unearth the town’s best fledgling digital or creative business – with the winner set to receive a prize worth more than £1,000.

Up for grabs is a 12-month membership to The Stable creative and co-working hub, in Wadham Street, offering a promising enterprise access to top-quality facilities and the opportunity to work alongside like-minded entrepreneurs.

Entrants need to submit their submissions by May 31 and, if shortlisted, convince a panel of judges they are worthy of the prize – one which could be the making of your business according to Stable member Paul Burton, who runs digital firm Pobi Ltd from the creative hub.

He founded the company at home, but is reaping the rewards of moving to the hub.

He said: “I wanted to separate my home from work, to create a new routine and to try to support a better work life balance.

“The environment is great and the businesses all have synergy being tech and creative, stolen conversations become valuable and informative between us.

“If you’re interested in working in an environment where you can meet people, open doors and find opportunities this is the place to be.”

Pobi has created a ‘digital personal career trainer’ which businesses use to help educate and motivate employees, and help improve their performance.

Mr Burton added: “Has my business improved since moving here? It’s the unexpected consequence of the move.

“The old adage, ‘it’s not what you know but who you know’, comes to mind. As a business you are only as good as the people you speak to and you don’t know what you don’t know.

“I have met many people which have value to offer to a business. The cost of the space versus the return is a no brainer.”

Mercury editor Tom Wright said: “Don’t just take our word for it, Weston’s bright freelancers and small businesses are finding The Stable a great place to grow their contacts, client base and enterprises. This competition is your chance to join their ranks and unlock a bright future for your company.”
