BUSINESS is booming in Weston and North Somerset, with 75 per cent more companies setting up shop this year than in 2005.Figures published by Barclays bank show a huge increase in the number of new businesses opening their doors for the first time.More than 500 new companies were set up in the first three months of 2006.Geoff Bartlett, start-up adviser at Business Link, said: "There are more small businesses than ever before in the UK with the South West listed as a leading hotspot outside of London for generating entrepreneurs."The number of new businesses also increased across the South West with 11,500 setting up - a 19 per cent increase on last year.Mr Bartlett added: "It's a good climate for small businesses as people are increasingly looking to niche providers who know their products, such as local producers and specialist stores.Business Link is running two courses to give entrepreneurs advice and support with their venture.The courses are free and will cover a range of issues including legal advice, employment, marketing and managing cash flow.Workshops are being held in Weston from October 18-20 and November 29-December 1.
