Having completed yet another gruelling bike ride for charity, Jason Eaton, general manager at the club and spa at Cadbury House, knows all too well what it takes to prepare for a test of endurance or stamina.

Collectively, the group Jason led raised £30,000, but it wasn’t a case of just hopping on his bike and pedalling over 300 miles in two and a half days.

To make sure he was ready, Jason put in place a training programme that, over the months leading to the ride, helped him build up his strength and get used to what was to come.

Anyone now looking to undertake any long-distanced challenge or even just improve their overall stamina should also look to establish a programme that will ensure they too are ready and raring to go.

Going for a brisk walk, jogging, gardening, swimming, riding a bike, walking in the hills are all fantastic endurance exercises that help keep you healthy, improve your fitness, and help you perform the tasks you need to do every day.

Endurance exercises also improve the health of your heart, lungs, and circulatory system.

Jason said: “It was great to raise so much money for good causes and everyone who took part did amazingly well.

“All of the team trained over many months to make sure they were ready for the ride and it really showed.

“For anyone now contemplating something similar, the first thing to note is that having a goal to aim for really focuses the mind. But you don’t necessarily need to run a marathon or ride a bike hundreds of miles in order to improve your own levels of endurance and there are plenty of ways you can improve.

“Arguably the most important thing to consider is to build up your stamina slowly and give yourself plenty of time. If for example, you haven’t been out for a run for a while, then it’s highly unlikely that you’ll be able to complete 10 miles straight away.

“No matter what you do, you must be patient and build up slowly. However, not long into any endurance training, you’ll soon notice the benefits and realise that you’ve come a long way.

“Final bit of advice is, make sure you enjoy yourself. There’s no point slogging it out if you’re not having fun. And when you are enjoying it, the time just whizzes by.

“Of course, using the fantastic facilities here at the club and spa at Cadbury House along with the expert advice from the team, will go a long way to help anyone looking to improve their endurance"
