MEMBERS of a cadet group who have been forced to meet in a dirty underpass have been offered their old home back.Last week the Weston & Somerset Mercury reported how the Worle platoon of the Somerset Army Cadets had to get together in a subway near Cornwallis Avenue. But this week the cadet group's platoon commander, Sergeant Major Paul Ziegler, was contacted by officials at Worle Junior Football Club who offered the group its old home back in nearby Midhaven Rise. The cadet group had been using a hut at the football club's ground until it was vandalised last Christmas. It then moved to a temporary home at the Old Manor Inn off Cornwallis Avenue.Sgt Major Ziegler said: "The football club said we can use its hut again. Although it has been vandalised again recently it is drier than the underpass and we are hoping to start using it again this week."On Monday we had to parade in the underpass and it is not the sort of place I want to us to be. I think the group deserves better."The group has won so many competitions and no matter what happens to the cadets, they refuse to be beaten."The Reserve Forces And Cadet Association, an organisation which supports the army cadet force, is looking into taking on the lease at Worle Junior Football Club's grounds in Midhaven Rise and is in consultation with North Somerset Council. So things could be looking up.
