AN RSPCA inspector is appealing for witnesses after a young, black cat was shot with an air rifle in East Brent.

The female cat, who is just over a year old and called Luna, was found sitting in her basket with a blood-covered head by her owners on December 17.

She was rushed to a vet and it was only when she had an operation to remove her badly damaged eye that a pellet from an air rifle was found in it.

RSPCA inspector Hayley Lawrence does not think she was shot by mistake.

She said: “I find it hard to believe that she was shot after being mistaken for another animal.

“If you have any information please call our inspector information line 0300 1238181.”
