WESTON residents are being asked to name and shame derelict, dilapidated or decrepit buildings in the town that need cleaning up.Prospective MP Mike Bell is calling for a zero tolerance approach to shabby and neglected buildings and land in the town and will campaign for owners to clean their property up themselves or it will be done for them and they will be sent the bill.He is asking members of the public to highlight 'eyesores' they think should be improved and will campaign for North Somerset Council to issue section 215 enforcement notices to make it happen. He said: "The powers can be used to force property owners to make significant and swift improvements to buildings or land."Where the notices are not complied with, landowners can be prosecuted and face the prospect of the work being done and then being sent the bill. "North Somerset Council is spending millions trying to regenerate Weston, with major work at Grove Village, Big Lamp Corner, Meadow Street and the seafront. And businesses like the Grand Pier and Seven, which invest in the town, are badly let down by those who don't."Why should the minority of property owners, often not locals, who allow their property to fall into disrepair be allowed to blight our town?"I can think of a number of places along the seafront that need improving and the derelict land in Royal Crescent needs sorting out. But I want to hear what places around the town members of the public think are eyesores and need cleaning up. We need a firmer approach and the evidence from elsewhere is that more section 215 notices work."To nominate a building or area of land contact Mike on 07765 902348 or e-mail him at mike@michaelbell.org
