Call to keep donating blood
PUBLISHED: 19:00 10 December 2010
PEOPLE who give blood are being urged to keep their appointments despite the arrival of snow and freezing conditions.
NHS Blood and Transplant made the call after thousands of donations were cancelled because of the weather last week.
The service needs a continuous supply of blood because stocks have a limited shelf-life and need to be replaced every few days.
By giving blood, people can help to ensure patients undergoing surgery or receiving treatment for cancer can get the transfusions they need.
