SOMERSET Lib Dems have today called on the Tory leader of Somerset County council to resign.

The group has accused Cllr Maddock of ‘failing in his duty to manage the council’s finances’, and said that tens of millions of pounds could have been saved by the council.

Gloria Cawood, Lib Dem shadow member responsible for children and young people, said: “These proposals fly in the face of the Coalition Government’s desire for localism, and are completely contrary to the Tory’s declared wish to increase the academic standards of young people.”

The group says it is considering calling for a vote of no confidence in Cllr Maddock at the full council meeting on February 16.
