CALLS to the main police switchboard were disrupted this morning.
People who tried to call the Avon and Somerset Police via the 0845 456 7000 number may have experienced difficulties.
A police spokesman said: "The number was out of action for a period of 90 minutes. This was due to a nationwide fault affecting most non-geographic numbers beginning with 08 and it was out of the force's control.
"Contingency plans were prepared in the eventuality of the 0845 number being unavailable and it should be stressed that this fault did not affect the emergency 999 service. People were still able to contact the police in the event of a life-threatening situation or other emergency requiring police attention.
