A CAMERA will soon be keeping an eye on a congested Congresbury junction. The machine has been installed at the junction of the High Street and the A370 in the village as part of a pilot project to see whether it can help keep traffic flowing freely through the problem area.Once fully operational, the camera will be used to monitor traffic and allow the patterns of the lights to be changed manually during periods of heavy traffic to combat congestion, via a direct link to the highways department at the Town Hall in Weston.A spokesman for Congresbury Parish Council said: "The idea is that the traffic camera can be used in situations where there is an unexpected increase in vehicles on the A370, such as an accident on the motorway causing motorists to take the route as a diversion."Being able to change the patterns of the lights as needed should reduce delays, the weight of traffic and emissions from vehicles."The parish council has also agreed to ask North Somerset Council for emissions monitoring sites in Smallway and Brinsea Road in addition to the one sited at the Cross memorial.
