SPECIALIST cameras were used by police hunting for criminals visiting Weston Beach Race.

The police and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) used automatic number plate recognition equipment as part of a high visibility operation.

VOSA aims to improve the roadworthiness standards of vehicles on the roads.

As well as catching criminals, the cameras also highlighted cars which had no insurance or MoT certificate.

A total of nine vehicles were stopped in connection with various offences and a further 19 were ordered off the road by police carrying out spot checks in Weston.

One person was arrested and taken to Weston Police Station in Walliscote Road for possession of drugs.
