A VITAL transport service in Nailsea is on the lookout for people to help steer it in the right direction.Nailsea and District Community Transport, which operates from Coates Industrial Estate in Southfield Road, was set up in 1994.Twelve years later, the not-for-profit organisation has seven minibuses and a people carrier and employs ten staff.Last year its vehicles made 25,000 journeys across and beyond North Somerset, ferrying elderly and disabled people to the shops, doctors' surgeries and hospital appointments and on day trips. The organisation has enough drivers and passengers' assistants to continue its work but needs to recruit some more people onto its management committee.Lesley Timmins, Nailsea and District Community Transport's general manager, said: "We have enough drivers and passenger assistants, but we have a shortage of people on the management committee."We particularly need a secretary and could do with a couple of other people too."The main thing would-be members of the management committee must have is an interest in what we do, but it would be great if someone who used to be in business, or has a personnel background, or experience of fund-raising, felt able to join the committee."Having a few more people on the committee would increase the pool of skills we can draw on, result in more ideas coming up for discussion and mean the workload could be shared out a bit more."The management committee meets a maximum of six times a year.Meetings are held alternately during the day or in the early evening.Anyone who may be interested in joining the management committee is invited to call Lesley on 01275 855552.
