A WOMAN says she is living a 'nightmare' after her treatment for skin cancer was cancelled twice.Jeannette Barnes, of The Enclosures, Weston, has cancer on her head, back and eyelid. The condition was diagnosed in October last year and Mrs Barnes needs skin grafts to treat it.She was meant to go into Frenchay Hospital in Bristol on January 27 for treatment to start the following day and again on February 16. But on both occasions her treatment was cancelled on the day she was due to go into hospital. She cancelled an appointment in December last year because it was on the day of her 40th birthday.Mrs Barnes had previously undergone a skin graft for cancer on her head in August 2004 and was thought to be in the clear.Mrs Barnes said: "In January and February this year I was packed and ready to go. I got a call in the morning from the hospital saying not to leave until I heard otherwise. An hour later they called to say the appointment was cancelled."It's been a nightmare. I think they put me off because of a funding issue."Cancer victims are meant to be treated with respect but a dog gets better treatment from a vet. I'm worn out and drained. I'm past crying."If my cancer isn't treated quickly it will grow. The cancer spot on my back was the size of a fingernail, now it's the size of a thumbnail."Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt says the NHS does not turn away emergencies. Well I'm an emergency and I'm frightened."My husband took time off work to look after me and missed an important course. I had to call his bosses to apologise."A Frenchay spokesman said: "Mrs Barnes is now due to come to Frenchay Hospital at the end of this month and this is within the national timescales for her treatment."Unfortunately she was unable to make her hospital appointment in December and, due to heightened pressures on the hospital at this time of year, two further appointments had to be postponed for a short amount of time."We understand this can be frustrating and we apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused.
