Capture Weston-super-Mare at its finest for 2017 calendar

The Mercury is this week teaming up with Birnbeck rescue campaigners to relaunch a photography competition where the winners could see their pictures featured in a calendar and sold across Weston-super-Mare.
Last year, we worked with the Birnbeck Regeneration Trust (BRT), a group lobbying to restore the town’s crumbling Birnbeck Pier, to run the Weston At Its Finest competition.
More than 300 entries, each celebrating everything which is great about Weston, were eventually whittled down to just 12 winners and 12 runners-up to be featured in the finished calendar.
The revived competition will once again carry the Weston At Its Finest theme, with all proceeds again going directly to the trust’s efforts to save the pier.
Trustee Neil O’Donoghue said: “Last year’s competition really showed Weston at its finest and was a great opportunity for all the non-professional photographers to showcase their work, and for the people of Weston to vote on their favourite photos to go into the 2016 calendar.
“We sold more than 220 calendars – a great result – and had lots of feedback to suggest that a small calendar format would be better for people. So this year we will go with a smaller format and hopefully top last year’s sales.”
Photographers of all abilities are invited to try to capture the town, and can then submit their entries during a three-week window which will be followed by a two-week judging period.
To enter your pictures, send them to firstname.lastname@example.org by 10am on September 14.
Shortlisted entries and information about the voting process will be featured in the Mercury on September 22.
Usual Archant competition rules apply. The judges’ decision is final, and by entering the competition you agree to be contacted by Archant.
