FIREFIGHTERS were called to the M5 near Weston after a car burst into flames last night (Mon).

The fire service received several reports of a vehicle on fire between junctions 22 for Weston and junction 21 for Burnham on the northbound carriage just after 9pm.

Crews from Burnham and Bridgwater were called to the scene and found a RAV 4 alight on the hard shoulder.

They extinguished the flames using a hose reel jet and compressed air foam.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Extensive damage was caused to the car and the fire was thought to have been caused by a fault.

“There were no casualties.”
