Car dealership closure

PUBLISHED: 13:30 24 May 2012

A MAJOR car dealership in Weston is set to close, forcing staff to move to other branches.

SJ Cook and Sons in Locking Road, which sells Renault and Kia vehicles, will close by June 29, according to a letter from managing director Robin Cook displayed at the store.

It cited a poor economic climate as the reason for the closure and stated it could close even sooner if business worsens.

The letter said: “It is with regret that I have to inform you of the pending closure of this dealership.

“An adverse economic climate has forced us to take this very difficult decision. We anticipate closing the site on June 29 although this may be brought forward if business worsens in the meantime.

“We intend to continue to run the business as normal until the closure date.”

The letter was signed by Mr Cook, the group managing director of the dealership’s parent company Carco Group.

SJ Cook and Sons declined to comment when contacted by the Mercury.

Staff at the branch who wished to remain anonymous said they would be redeployed at other branches but that the exact details had not yet been finalised.
