FIREFIGHTERS were called to a car fire this morning following a crash on the M5.

Two fire engines were sent from Burnham following the fire on the northbound carriageway between junction 21 (Weston) and 22 (Burnham).

A Devon Fire and Rescue spokesman said one car was ‘well alight’ when they arrived on scene at about 4.10am.

The blaze was extinguished and the incident was left in the hands of the police.

The road was partly closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, but it is now open as normal.

No information about whether anyone was injured has been made public at this stage.
