New on-street parking charges have come into force in Weston-super-Mare, meaning people must now pay more to park.

A rise in North Somerset Council’s on-street charges means parking for 20 minutes in pay-and-display bays now costs 30p, instead of 20p.

Parking for an hour now costs £1.30, instead of £1. It is no longer possible to park for 90 minutes and parking for two hours now costs £2.50, instead of £2.40.

The rise comes less than a month after the authority introduced its civil parking enforcement scheme, which saw it dish out 700 fines to people parked wrongly in its first week.

Parking charges in car parks in Weston-super-Mare and Worle have also risen.

Melrose, Grove Park and Carlton Street car parks will now cost £1.30 for an hour, £2.30 for two hours, £3.50 for three hours, £5 for four hours, and £10 for more than four hours up to 24 hours.
