Carers Trust Phoenix will soon cease trading.

One of North Somerset's largest charities has announced it will shut its doors for good, after rising costs and changes to regulations meant it could no longer continue to operate sustainably.

Carers Trust Phoenix has been providing support and advice to unpaid carers across the district for more than 25 years.

However, the organisation confirmed this week that it would soon be forced to close due to financial reasons.

The charity’s chief executive, Jacqui Justice, told the Mercury: “It is with immense regret that Carers Trust Phoenix has announced it will shortly cease trading.

“The welfare and wellbeing of the carers we support has always been, and remains, our primary concern.

“The organisation has, for many years, been able to absorb the financial pressures being placed on social care providers.

“However, following recent changes in employment regulation and rising operational costs, we have determined that we are unable to continue to do so and we will no longer be able to continue as a sustainable organisation.”

Although the charity’s head office is in Oldmixon Crescent, in Weston, it supports carers and employs staff across the whole of the South West.

However, Ms Justice told the Mercury she is hopeful the organisation will be able to transfer its services to another provider, which will help to ensure alternative employment is found for employees.

She said: “We are currently working with local authorities, funders and other organisations to ensure the closure creates as little disruption to the carers and families we support as possible.

“We are working very hard to secure – and are hopeful we will be able to find – suitable provision for all our service users and alternative employment for our staff.”

Ms Justice also said she wanted to thank everyone who had played a part in establishing Carers Trust Phoenix as one of North Somerset’s largest care charities during the past 25 years.

She said: “We would like to send our most profound thanks to the staff, trustees, supporters and carers who have supported Carers Trust Phoenix over the years.

“We are proud to have been the leading local charity supporting unpaid carers across North Somerset.”
