THE controversial 'carrot' top has finally arrived in Weston after a series of delays.Crowds gathered in Big Lamp Corner to watch the final 70ft spire section of the Silica sculpture, dubbed a 'carrot' by its critics, being put in place on Sunday (Nov 12). Two cranes hoisted the spire into place after an early morning lorry journey from the Nottingham factory where it had been constructed. The £300,000 artwork, which will house a creperie and a bus stop, has around 3,500 glass balls and 280 LED lights, all of which needed to be checked in a three-hour operation before the spire was put up.North Somerset Council's executive member for planning and transport, John Crockford-Hawley said: "This will become a real asset to Weston, an icon and will therefore prove its real value over time.
