A BRAVE 13-year-old boy with cancer needs to raise enough money to travel to America for treatment.Adam Martin was diagnosed with the illness two years ago and has had to undergo intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy because of the tumours on his brain and spine. The youngster, who is in year eight at Worle Community School and lives in Mendip Avenue, is now confined to a wheelchair and spent five months in hospital last year.Despite his brave fight against cancer and an operation to remove the tumours, a recent scan showed the growths have got bigger. Adam has also developed curvature of the spine. His mum Bev says the only way Adam can get the treatment he needs is to travel to The Spinal Chord Institute at the University of Miami. She said: "I have been researching on the internet but I would imagine it will cost thousands of pounds for us to go there."The problem is that Adam has rare types of tumours and we have been told nobody can operate on his spine."The doctors here have now told him they may have to put metal plates into his back but that would mean they would no longer be able to give him a proper MRI scan and then they wouldn't be able to keep an eye on the tumours. Doctors have told us they cannot get rid of Adam's illness, all they have been trying to do is keep him stable."America may have experts who may be more used to the types of tumours he has. We are hoping they may be able to treat him."When learning support assistants, Hannah Maclorinan and Andy Girling, who help Adam at school, heard about the youngster's chance to go to America for treatment they joined forces with Jill Pratlett, who also works at Worle Community School, to help organise a fund-raising musical spectacular. The evening of live music will be held at Weston Football Club's Woodspring Stadium in Winterstoke Road, on July 19.The event, called 'Too Posh To Mosh', has attracted bands like Ryan Inglis, The Sketch, Sister Morphine and White Label, which Andy is a member of.Tickets, priced £5, are available in advance on 07933 996079 or on the door from 6.30pm. * Pictured: Adam with mum Bev and sister Amisha, Andy, Hannah, Jill and stepfather Barry Harvey.
